About the Role
This role is responsible for the end-to-end labeling operation, including managing the annotator team, maintaining quality standards, and overseeing the datasets. This is a critical, first-in-function hire where you will build the operational playbook. Success means establishing a labeling operation that is fast, accurate, and trusted by ML engineers.
Responsibilities
- Build and manage the annotator team, including recruitment, onboarding, training, and ensuring quality and throughput.
- Own labeling quality by reviewing annotations, identifying systematic errors, and refining guidelines.
- Clean existing datasets by correcting inconsistent labels, missing metadata, and duplicates.
- Source and organize new construction drawings to expand data coverage for formats, classes, and edge cases.
- Manage the process of turning ML requests into shipped datasets, including scoping, project execution, and timely delivery.
- Collaborate with ML engineers to understand model failures and develop data solutions.
- Develop tooling and workflows to enhance labeling speed and reliability, involving systems work beyond people management.
Requirements
- Direct experience managing a labeling, annotation, or data-quality team.
- Exceptional attention to detail, with the ability to identify data inaccuracies, inconsistencies, or incompleteness proactively.
- Strong operational skills to manage multiple datasets, annotators, and priorities simultaneously.
- Technical proficiency to understand ML concepts like false positives, false negatives, class imbalance, and train/test splits, and to implement tools for labeling efficiency.
- Resourcefulness in acquiring necessary data.
- High sense of ownership and accountability for dataset quality.
