About the Role
The Student Advocate fosters a program environment conducive to the academic, social, and personal development of students in grades 8-12, with the goal of helping students stay in school, graduate, and plan for their future.
Responsibilities
- Partner individually with students through targeted mentorship to build self-direction and actionable paths toward future goals.
- Motivate students collectively and individually to achieve academic success through encouraging, advising, and planning strategies.
- Provide academic assistance to students including tutoring, homework assistance, and exam review in all subject areas, and assistance in standardized test preparation.
- Encourage student completion and review of PLP’s and SEA’s to drive individual case management.
- Handle other duties as assigned.
- Demonstrate and role-model all of Le Moyne’s mission-based competencies (collaboration, communication, diversity, integrity, leadership and service) in every interaction with all community members and external parties.
- Strengthen digital literacy skills through education and the application of digital technologies in order to effectively engage in information gathering, utilization and data management while promoting a security culture.
- Support cura personalis by treating all individuals with dignity, professionalism and kindness.
- Promote cura apostolica by aligning professional goals, objectives, and performance with college’s strategic goals.
- Demonstrate excellent work attendance, reliability and work ethic.
- Attend and actively participate in required meetings and training sessions.
- Comply and adhere to all of Le Moyne’s established policies, procedures and codes of conduct at all times, including all health and safety requirements and regulations, to promote desired behavior and build awareness.
- Complete all required federal, state, institution and department trainings.
- Engage in a planned program of professional development.
- Continually maintain skills and knowledge relative to the position and technology industry including best practice, evolving operational requirements, and industry trends.
- Perform a variety of related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree
- NYS K-12 Teaching Certification preferred
- An interest in, and commitment to, academic achievement for high school students
- An understanding of and comfort with culturally diverse populations
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Flexibility and adaptability are essential
