About the Role

Everfox is seeking a Software Engineer to join their London team. This role involves working on diverse, short-term projects (1-6 months) to enhance products with AI-driven features and improve development processes using AI tooling. The engineer will collaborate with internal teams, adapt to various languages and frameworks, and focus on problem-solving and code quality.

Responsibilities

Design, implement, and maintain features and components across various internal codebases using different languages and frameworks.
Integrate AI models and APIs into products, including prompt design, retrieval, agent orchestration, and managing data handling, caching, error handling, cost, and latency.
Develop evaluation and testing strategies for AI features to ensure measurable behavior and prevent quality regression.
Utilize AI tooling and agentic workflows to enhance personal development speed and quality, creating reusable components for others.
Apply AI tooling to improve test coverage, generate tests, enhance documentation, and reduce manual effort in existing codebases.
Rapidly prototype solutions to de-risk complex problems and assess the viability of approaches.
Quickly understand unfamiliar codebases by reading, mapping key components, and asking targeted questions.
Collaborate with other teams as a guest in their codebases, agreeing on scope, adhering to conventions, and ensuring code is reviewed and merged.
Partner with Product Managers, QA, and engineering teams to define technical work and acceptance criteria.
Ensure clean handovers at project completion, providing tests, documentation, and context for ongoing support and extension.
Share knowledge through reusable components, tooling, patterns, documentation, and informal coaching.
Maintain visibility of progress, risks, and blockers to management and collaborating teams.
Take ownership of shipped code quality through automated tests, code reviews, logging, and consideration of failure modes.
Apply security and data handling best practices when integrating AI components, considering data transmission, model trust, and input/output handling.
Contribute to CI/CD, automation, and developer tooling improvements.
Help establish standards for AI in products and development processes, providing honest feedback on effectiveness.

Requirements

Solid commercial software development experience with a history of shipping reliable software.
Genuine language flexibility, with proficiency in at least one language and the ability to quickly become productive in others.
Strong understanding of core computer science concepts including data structures, algorithms, concurrency, networking, APIs, testing, and software security.
Ability to analyze and understand unfamiliar systems, read code, form mental models, and assess the impact of changes.
Practical experience with modern AI development tooling or demonstrated ability to quickly learn and apply new techniques.
Strong communication and collaboration skills, enabling trust and adoption of work by other teams.
Self-motivated, flexible, adaptable, and comfortable taking on unfamiliar projects.
