About the Role

ABRAMS, a leading publisher of art and illustrated books, is seeking a Children's Editorial Intern for their Fall Internship Program. This unpaid internship, offered for academic credit only, provides hands-on experience in book publishing, allowing interns to contribute to real projects and learn from experienced professionals. The program aims to prepare future publishing talent by fostering a passion for books, art, and culture.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with preparation for seasonal list launch
  • Draft fact sheets and flap copy for various titles
  • Review submissions and write readers' reports
  • Draft rejection letters
  • Research competitive titles for acquisition meetings
  • Prepare materials for and shadow meetings (Editorial, Cover, Pub Board, marketing, sketch reviews)
  • Read materials, provide feedback, and take minutes at weekly Editorial Meetings
  • Perform miscellaneous special projects, including proofreading and providing editorial notes on manuscripts
  • Provide administrative support, such as pulling sales information and reports
  • Learn and network with publishing professionals and fellow interns
  • Gain hands-on exposure to the publishing industry
  • Support research, project work, and daily tasks within the assigned department
  • Contribute ideas and creative input on department projects
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams
  • Participate in workshops and discussions on publishing trends
  • Receive coaching, mentorship, and feedback from ABRAMS professionals

Requirements

  • Must be currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student at an accredited academic institution
  • This internship is not open to recent graduates
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Detail-oriented
  • Able to organize priorities and juggle multiple tasks
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Specific interest in children's books
  • A cover letter is required for consideration
