About the Role

ABRAMS is seeking a Publicity Intern to join our Children’s Publicity team for the Fall Internship Program. This unpaid program, offered for academic credit only, provides interns with meaningful insight into book publishing and allows them to contribute to real projects. Interns will learn from experienced professionals, develop practical skills, and gain a broader understanding of the publishing industry.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain title information, media clips, press contacts, and detailed logs of publicity projects in an internal database system.
  • Coordinate details and travel logistics for book tours, festivals, conferences, and launch events.
  • Draft press releases and media pitches.
  • Create publicity mailing lists to further relationships and managed outreach to relevant parties.
  • Place orders with the warehouse to send books to reviewers and media contacts.
  • Learn and network with ABRAMS employees, publishing professionals, and fellow interns.
  • Gain hands-on exposure to the publishing industry, from concept to finished product.
  • Support research, project work, and day-to-day tasks within the assigned department.
  • Contribute ideas and provide creative input on department projects.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and learn about various areas of the publishing business.
  • Participate in workshops and discussions designed to deepen understanding of publishing trends and processes.
  • Receive coaching, mentorship, and feedback from experienced ABRAMS professionals.

Requirements

  • Must be currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student at an accredited academic institution.
  • This internship is not open to recent graduates.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and resourceful, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Strong interest in publicity, publishing, and book promotion.
  • Demonstrates strong communication and project coordination skills.
  • Comfortable working both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficient in Mac OS and Microsoft Office Suite, including strong working knowledge of Excel, PowerPoint, and Adobe Acrobat.
