About the Role
The Battery Service Tech is responsible for supporting and promoting the goals of the battery program. This position provides safe and best-in-class roadside service solutions for AAA members, ensuring positive member experiences in a Battery Service Vehicle. Technicians respond to member requests, ensure safety and vehicle security, educate members on issues, and provide services such as jump starts, flat tire replacement, and battery testing/installation.
Responsibilities
- Respond to member requests for service with an estimated time of arrival.
- Locate members and assess the safety of the scene to ensure a safe service environment.
- Greet members and manage their emotional state, providing reassurance and advice.
- Clearly communicate all aspects of the battery program, including the importance of testing and program benefits.
- Report diagnostic testing results to members and provide referrals for additional repairs.
- Maintain minimum performance standards in conversion, testing, and installs.
- Perform diagnostic testing on vehicle systems including electrical, battery, starting, charging, ignition, and fuel delivery.
- Determine the best course of action for vehicle issues and ask for assistance when needed.
- Perform battery testing, maintenance on battery terminals, and install appropriate batteries.
- Follow all safety procedures for battery installation and hazardous materials handling.
- Call for towing if required.
- Maintain service vehicle and equipment in good working order, conducting safety checks.
- Maintain an inventory of tools and products.
- Operate a laptop computer to record van activity, invoicing, cash and credit receipts, and inventory.
- Inspect and maintain the appearance and mechanical condition of the assigned vehicle.
- Restock sold batteries, test new stock, and dispose of obsolete batteries following hazardous waste procedures.
- Inventory all electronic testing equipment.
- Certify to operate a Battery Service Vehicle by attending required training and refreshers annually.
- Promote AAA products and services.
- Ensure complete resolution of member issues.
- Achieve club performance standards for go rates and membership satisfaction.
Requirements
- High School GED required.
- At least 21 years of age required.
- Post-secondary training in automotive mechanics and familiarity with electrical troubleshooting is preferred.
- Active and valid driver’s license issued by only one state or jurisdiction required.
- Able to obtain and maintain a minimum of one-year DOT card pre-hire and as a current employee required.
- Satisfactorily pass a motor vehicle record check during pre-hire screening and periodically during employment.

Salary/Compensations
- $23.50 - $26.45 Hourly
- Additional $2.75 per hour overnight shift differential
- Additional $1.75 per hour evening shift differential
- Additional $1 per hour shift differential for weekend hours
- Annual bonuses are offered
- Eligible to earn additional forms of compensation through monthly and/or quarterly incentives
