About the Role

Boost Child & Youth Advocacy Centre (Boost CYAC) is seeking a Child & Youth Advocate to provide support and advocacy to clients during child abuse investigations and for ongoing needs assessment. This role involves collaboration with various professionals to offer holistic services to children, youth, and their families.

Responsibilities

• Provide support and education to children, youth, and their families during investigative interviews.
• Greet families, provide facility tours, and explain processes and team member roles.
• Be available for on-site and virtual check-ins to answer questions about interactions with various systems.
• Provide crisis intervention in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team (MDT) for safety and mental health concerns.
• Provide backup court preparation and accompaniment support for children and youth.
• Assist families in identifying support systems with extended family, friends, and community services.
• Facilitate referrals to appropriate internal and external services.
• Collaborate with MDT members and justice partners for client planning, consultation, and advocacy.
• Assist with intake referrals as required.

Requirements

• A BSW or equivalent degree or diploma in social work, child & youth care, or social services.
• A minimum of three years of relevant work experience, preferably with victims of violence, abuse, and trauma.
• Ability to meet the needs of a diverse client base through knowledge of diversity, equity, inclusion (DEI), trauma-informed, anti-oppressive, anti-racist, and cultural competency practices.
• Demonstrated commitment to equity, anti-oppressive practice, and culturally responsive service delivery.
• Strong self-awareness, ability to reflect on personal bias and privilege, and experience providing culturally safe, trauma-informed support.
• Understanding of the Child & Youth Advocacy Model and experience collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and community partners.
• Awareness of various types of traumas and trauma experiences.
• Ability to respond to crisis situations, screen for suicidality, and develop safety plans.
• Sound knowledge of the Child, Youth and Family Services Act.
• Some knowledge of the judicial system and services for victims/witnesses and their families.
• Ability to employ self-care strategies and maintain a positive attitude in stressful situations.
• Excellent interpersonal, written, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work on multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Proficient computer skills and experience with client databases and electronic health records.
• Demonstrated flexibility, judgment, initiative, confidentiality, and a strong work ethic.
• Satisfactory clearance under the Vulnerable Sector Screening process.
