About the Role
Hampden-Sydney College has an immediate opening for a Data Analyst. This role supports the Office of Institutional Effectiveness by developing, implementing, and disseminating analyses on College information such as student enrollment, retention, and graduation to meet the data needs of academic and administrative units. The ideal candidate is versatile, adaptable, and possesses a broad range of skills to address diverse responsibilities.
Responsibilities
- Support Office of Institutional Effectiveness (OIE) processes, including data analysis for federal and state reporting, academic and administrative assessment, accreditation, and external surveys/rankings.
- Respond to routine and ad-hoc data requests from internal and external stakeholders.
- Assist with dashboard development, key indicator reporting, production of the annual Factbook, and administration of institutional surveys.
- Conduct quantitative analyses on topics including enrollment, retention, graduation, and student demographics.
- Provide data support to College administrators, faculty, staff, and other members of the college community.
- Present data in a format suitable for technical and non-technical audiences.
- Provide periodic reports regarding the status of assigned projects and recommend corrective actions when necessary.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Three years of experience working in higher education preferred but not required.
- Master’s degree in a research-based discipline (social sciences, education, computer or data sciences, statistics, etc.) a plus.
- Experience with statistical software and spreadsheets.
- Familiarity with database query language, data retrieval tools, and learning management systems.
- Ability to learn new software.
- Experience with Jenzabar a plus.
- Understanding of statistical techniques.
- Ability to statistically synthesize and analyze data from multiple sources.
- Understanding of research design and data visualization techniques.
- Commitment to professional development and continued learning to maintain up-to-date knowledge of institutional research methods and issues.
- Ability to communicate complex information effectively in writing and verbally with diverse audiences.
