About the Role
Ratehub is seeking a Senior Editor & Media Advisor to join their Mortgages Business Unit. The position is remote-first, with the possibility of occasional in-person team gatherings.
Responsibilities
- Serve as Ratehub's primary subject matter expert for mortgages and real estate, representing the brand in media opportunities.
- Support the Communications team with expert commentary, data points, and timely insights for media pitches and press opportunities.
- Bring on-camera and on-mic presence to video content and media interviews.
- Strengthen Ratehub's authority in the mortgage space by producing/writing exceptional, accurate, and timely original content across various formats.
- Develop content that provides unique analysis and insights reflecting current market conditions, rate movements, and consumer needs.
- Liaise regularly with Ratehub's mortgage brokerage team to stay current on rate trends, lender strategy, and market shifts, and translate those insights into timely content updates.
- Maintain and refresh existing content on an ongoing basis, leveraging internal resources and freelancers.
- Incorporate SEO and GEO best practices into all content.
- Set, document, and uphold Ratehub's editorial voice and style standards across all formats, channels, and contributors.
- Establish and maintain editorial policies, workflows, and governance frameworks.
- Own and manage the editorial and social media calendar, ensuring content meets accuracy, compliance, and regulatory standards.
- Review, edit, and approve work from writers, freelancers, and subject matter experts.
- Develop and maintain deep expertise in Canadian personal finance to provide credible editorial oversight.
- Own content QA processes, including fact-checking, link auditing, structural reviews, and scheduled content refreshes.
- Use performance data to inform editorial priorities and identify content gaps.
- Brief, onboard, and manage freelance contributors.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with product, design, marketing, and data teams.
- Serve as the lead on sponsored content production, acting as the primary point of contact between the external partnership team and the content team.
Requirements
- 6–10 years of editorial experience.
- Demonstrated expertise in personal finance content, with a strong preference for candidates with a mortgage or real estate focus.
- Experience working in a digital-first media environment, fintech, financial services, or a high-volume content operation.
- Post-secondary education in journalism, communications, English, or a related field — or equivalent professional experience.
- Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills with the ability to make complex financial topics clear and compelling for a Canadian consumer audience.
- Deep familiarity with Canadian mortgage products, rate structures, lending regulations, and the broader real estate landscape strongly preferred.
- Proven ability to manage a high volume of content across multiple formats simultaneously.
- Strong command of Canadian AP or CP style, with experience developing and maintaining in-house style guides.
- Solid working knowledge of SEO best practices, including keyword research, on-page optimization, internal linking, and content structuring for search.
- Familiarity with GEO (generative engine optimization) and how AI-powered search is changing content strategy.
- Comfortable using tools such as Google Search Console, Google Analytics, Semrush, PEEC or similar platforms to inform editorial decisions.
- Ability to interpret content performance data and translate it into actionable editorial priorities.
- Experience mentoring content writers/strategists, with a track record of raising the quality of a team's output.
- Skilled at briefing and managing freelance contributors, including providing clear, constructive editorial feedback.
- Comfortable working cross-functionally with marketing, product, and analytics teams.
- Strong project management instincts — able to juggle competing deadlines, shifting priorities, and multiple stakeholders.
- Confident communicator with experience serving as a brand spokesperson or subject matter expert in media contexts.
- On-camera and on-mic experience an asset.
- Strong relationships within Canadian financial media or journalism circles an asset.
