About the Role
The Aquatics Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the safe and efficient operation of swimming pools at assigned locations. This role provides leadership and direction to the aquatics team, develops staff schedules, and ensures compliance with safety and operational standards to deliver a positive and secure experience for all participants.
Responsibilities
- Enforce all pool safety rules and implement emergency procedures.
- Monitor swimmer safety, providing immediate responses to emergencies in accordance with YMCA policies.
- Complete and submit all required incident/accident reports.
- Monitor daily pool operations to ensure compliance with state, local, and YMCA health and safety regulations.
- Record and maintain accurate pool temperature, chemical quality, and safety inspection logs.
- Take appropriate action to address operational issues promptly.
- Develop and publish the staff schedule, ensuring adequate coverage for all shifts.
- Provide leadership, direction, and support to aquatics staff.
- Fill in for absences as needed and promote a positive, team-oriented work environment.
- Instruct participants in swim classes, implementing YMCA of the USA and YMCA Buffalo Niagara swim instruction programs.
- Maintain active surveillance of the pool area and addresses challenges calmly and effectively.
- Model professionalism and serve as a role model for the aquatics team.
- Conduct routine equipment checks to ensure proper functioning and availability of necessary tools.
- Oversee the cleanliness and organization of program/work areas and enforce cleaning protocols, including the use of PPE.
- Maintain all required certifications and ensure team compliance with certification requirements.
- Facilitate and attend staff training sessions to enhance skills and learn program standards.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Ability to maintain certification-level physical and mental readiness at all times.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage and motivate a team.
- Competency with Microsoft Office software for scheduling and administrative tasks.
Skills
- Lifeguard certification
- CPR for the Professional Rescuer
- First Aid
- Oxygen Administration
- YMCA or American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor or Lifeguard Supervisor certification (required within 90 days)
- Microsoft Office software
