About the Role
The Water Fitness Instructor facilitates engaging and safe water fitness classes, creating a positive environment that supports member wellness and fosters community engagement. Instructors ensure classes meet the needs of diverse participants, promoting the YMCA’s mission and values.
Responsibilities
- Lead energizing, educational, and safe water fitness classes that align with program goals and objectives.
- Create an inclusive and welcoming atmosphere where individuals feel respected and valued.
- Build relationships with members and program participants to support their health and wellness goals.
- Understand and accommodate diverse health needs, adjusting instruction to support participants' physical conditions, capabilities, and cultural backgrounds.
- Follow YMCA policies and procedures and respond promptly to emergency situations.
- Stay informed on wellness trends and incorporate effective strategies to enhance class experiences.
- Identify and celebrate member successes to encourage ongoing participation and achievement.
- Ensure the cleanliness and organization of program areas by following department protocols to clean and disinfect commonly used surfaces.
- Maintain accurate attendance records for all classes.
- Maintain working knowledge of wellness trends to provide effective guidance and support to members.
- Obtain and maintain specialized certifications required for certain classes, such as SilverSneakers Splash or Aqua Zumba.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Current CPR/AED/First Aid certification (American Red Cross, HSI, or American Heart Association accepted).
- Specialized certifications (e.g., SilverSneakers Splash, Aqua Zumba) required for specific classes.
- YMCA or American Red Cross Lifeguard certification is preferred.
- Proven experience leading group water fitness classes.
- Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
