About the Role
The Accountant and Payroll Specialist processes payroll data for CDS Life Transitions and affiliates, ensuring accurate accounting and reporting of consolidated business results.
Responsibilities
- Process bi-weekly payrolls timely and accurately, including setting up deductions, auditing reports, processing tax forms, and resolving pay issues.
- Ensure compliance with payroll and time and attendance policies and procedures.
- Monitor and implement changing payroll regulations and reporting requirements.
- Administer payroll system updates as needed.
- Manage the agency’s time and attendance system and other related interfaces.
- Assist employees and management with payroll-related issues and questions.
- Actively manage key internal relationships with HR and other departments.
- Keep up to date with changes to the Union Contract.
- Foster continuous improvement in efficiency, quality, and customer satisfaction.
- Verify quarterly and year-end tax files and W-2 information.
- Manage deadlines for various audit and filing requests.
- Monitor and correspond quarterly on outstanding payroll checks and reissue when applicable.
- Provide all necessary payroll reports in a timely and accurate manner.
- Sort and separate all regular payroll checks for distribution.
- Complete wage requests as needed.
- Issue manual checks for payrolls as needed.
- Maintain payroll files and records.
- Ensure payroll records are archived or shredded timely and accurately.
- Prepare quarterly reports.
- Prepare monthly journal entries.
- Prepare monthly account reconciliations to verify accuracy of account balances.
- Assist with variance analysis and provide explanations for fluctuations in financial results.
- Responsible for sending positive pay files to the bank.
- Maintain accurate cash balances and record daily activity.
- Assist with the Consolidated Fiscal Report, 990s, and other government-related reports.
- Assist with external audits.
- Assist with preparation of agency budgets and forecasts.
- Complete 1099s timely and accurately.
- File abandoned property documentation annually.
- Reconcile 941’s to the general ledger quarterly.
- Maintain schedule of rents and leases.
- Process invoices as requested.
- Perform special projects as assigned.
- Ensure compliance with corporate accounting policies and procedures and internal controls.
- Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results.
- Perform all other duties relevant to the position as assigned by supervisor.
Requirements

- Compare and evaluate situations requiring immediate decisions.
- Must be detail-oriented with strong organizational and prioritization skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with all levels of employees and management.
- Ability to work independently and motivate others.
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws.

- Attend mandatory education and training modules as scheduled.
- Obtain and maintain all required certifications/training by State regulations and CDS policy.
- Act as a professional representative of CDS Life Transitions, Inc. in regard to appearance, behavior, temperament, communication, language, and dress.
