About the Role
The Employment Support Professional (ESP) implements person-centered thinking and planning to assist individuals with developmental disabilities through employment services. The ESP works one-on-one to discover strengths, interests, and volunteer opportunities, and to obtain and maintain employment. The role involves assisting individuals with their current services and understanding various employment programs like Community Prevoc, Pathway to Employment, and Supported Employment. The ESP will implement each individual’s career path to foster independence and improve skills for chosen careers.
Responsibilities
- Implement and document each individual’s total person-centered plan, encouraging maximum independence and self-worth.
- Evaluate, develop, and implement a plan for service delivery based on strengths and interests.
- Provide support and training to individuals, fostering community inclusion and increasing awareness of employment opportunities.
- Assist in the coordination, participation, and communication of individual meetings.
- Educate, support, and promote individuals to access transportation independently.
- Accompany individuals on volunteer/job sites, assisting with tasks and assessments.
- Comply with all state, federal, and agency policies, procedures, and regulations as indicated by OPWDD.
- Maintain all individuals’ records, ensuring filing, accuracy, compliance, and updating.
- Operate agency vehicles in compliance with policies, procedures, and traffic laws, ensuring and documenting vehicle maintenance and condition.
- Maintain a calm, tolerant, kind, courteous, and accepting environment in compliance with individuals’ service plans and plans of protective oversight.
- Provide and ensure a safe work/living environment, including compliance with all safety policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Attend required trainings, meetings, and updates, and acquire/maintain all required certifications.
- Participate in staff meetings regularly and attend all mandatory meetings.
- Remain aware and respectful of individuals’ rights and responsibilities, immediately reporting any concerns or issues of potential harm, mistreatment, or rights restriction.
- Work at any/all residences upon request to assure appropriate coverage and assist when needed.
- Participate as an active member of the person’s service team.
- Demonstrate flexibility of schedule to provide person-driven employment services.
- Perform any other related duties as requested by the supervisor.
Requirements
- High School Diploma/GED plus 2 years of experience working with individuals with disabilities OR an Associate's Degree in a Human Services Related Field with 1 year of experience working with individuals with disabilities.
- Ability to exhibit and maintain a professional, kind, courteous, and patient manner at all times.
- Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
- Ability to bend, reach, push, and pull.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Reading and math skills at a level to perform job duties.
- Demonstrated interest and ability to facilitate personal outcomes for individuals receiving services.
- Ability to safely use household chemicals.
- Adherence to Agency Policies, including the Attendance Policy.
