About the Role
The Lead Teacher is responsible for general administrative duties, supervision of subordinate staff, and planning, preparing, and implementing daily activities for an assigned classroom. This role promotes the center’s philosophy and educational objectives.
Responsibilities
- Supervise the planning and execution of a day care program that addresses the educational, social, developmental, and health needs of children.
- Maintain equipment and materials in good condition for children's use.
- Report or remove damaged or hazardous equipment.
- Plan classroom furniture arrangement to optimize program functioning.
- Share in the overall planning for the best use of shared space.
- Plan the use of community resources to enrich the children's program.
- Develop educational goals appropriate to the age and developmental level of children.
- Share knowledge and understanding of the agency and community with classroom associates.
- Facilitate the professional growth of classroom associates through conferences and observation.
- Assist in the annual evaluation of classroom associates' job performance.
- Ensure equitable sharing of program responsibilities among all classroom personnel.
- Develop a plan for sharing information about children and the program with parents, teachers, and associates.
- Attend and participate in group parent meetings.
- Respect the confidential nature of information about parents and children.
- Maintain good working relationships and objective attitudes with other staff members.
- Plan and conduct regular group conferences with classroom associates.
- Encourage associates' attendance and participation in professional development workshops.
- Discuss own professional performance objectively in supervisory conferences with the director.
- Use supervisory conferences for information and professional guidance.
- Write, maintain, use, and share required records for effective administration and program development.
- Fulfill administrative functions in the director's absence when required.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
