About the Role

Practice and promote the agency’s mission statement and guiding principles. Provide ongoing support to ensure a high quality of life for individuals in the Residential Services program, assisting with self-care, health, safety, household chores, socialization, and overall wellbeing.

Responsibilities

  • Provide ongoing guidance and support to individuals with intellectual and other disabilities to ensure active participation in their lives.
  • Support individuals in becoming active community members and building natural supports.
  • Ensure a safe and clean home environment by assisting individuals with household chores.
  • Follow all treatment plans and utilize adaptive and safety equipment to promote independence and well-being.
  • Support individuals in preparing meals, teaching concepts like diet adherence and cooking skills.
  • Assist individuals with medication administration according to policy.
  • Implement and document treatment plans and agency materials to help individuals achieve independence.
  • Adhere to overtime, scheduling, and staffing policies to ensure quality support.
  • Serve as a member of the inter-disciplinary team, attending meetings to discuss individual progress.
  • Provide transportation for medical appointments, shopping, and recreational outings.
  • Mentor new Direct Support Staff by demonstrating supportive routines and reviewing training manuals.
  • Participate in House Meetings and maintain all certification and training expectations.
  • Perform other duties as requested by supervisor.

Requirements

  • Must submit a valid NYS driver's license and maintain qualified driver status.
  • Must have the ability to communicate and understand written and oral directives/information.
  • Requires regular and substantial unsupervised or unrestricted physical contact with people receiving services.
  • Subject to successful completion of fingerprint/criminal background check.
  • Training on Personal Outcome Measures (POM) is required prior to completion of evaluations and assessments.
  • Physical aspects may include lifting and transferring individuals; inability to meet physical demands may impact employment.
