About the Role

Join a fast-growing Legal team within Samsung’s European Services Business Office (ESBO), dedicated to delivering exceptional content and connected user experiences. As Senior Legal Counsel – Commercial, you will lead on media and commercial law, including licensing, app distribution, ad-tech, and advertising, acting as a trusted advisor to facilitate business growth while mitigating risk.

Responsibilities

  • Lead drafting and negotiation of complex commercial contracts for ESBO business activities.
  • Provide pragmatic legal advice on navigating legal and regulatory risk, particularly in targeted advertising, streaming, and app distribution.
  • Develop, implement, and communicate risk mitigation strategies.
  • Own and develop contractual playbooks, precedent agreements, and template documentation.
  • Mentor, supervise, and support the professional development of junior legal team members.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the wider legal team and business departments.
  • Liaise with and instruct external law firms and specialists, managing relationships cost-effectively.
  • Represent Samsung in external meetings and industry forums.
  • Contribute to ESBO Legal’s wider projects and initiatives.
  • Proactively build and maintain strong relationships with senior stakeholders across ESBO.
  • Actively contribute to personal development and support colleague development.

Requirements

  • Qualified solicitor in the UK or similar jurisdiction with circa 6-8 years’ PQE.
  • Substantial experience drafting and negotiating commercial contracts, ideally including content & channel licensing, advertising, and app distribution.
  • Thorough understanding of GDPR and associated privacy-related issues is highly desirable.
  • Ability to grasp concepts quickly, multitask, and prioritize by risk, urgency, and business value.
  • Demonstrated business partner mindset.
  • Patient, pragmatic, flexible, and detail-focused.
  • Confident operating independently and autonomously.
  • Experience supporting the development of others, including supervising, delegating, and mentoring junior colleagues.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, adaptable to various audiences.
  • Ability to communicate complex legal issues clearly and concisely.
  • Past in-house experience (including by secondment) is preferred.
