About the Role

Lead the delivery of health and safety across Camden's Property Directorate, acting as the competent person for a diverse portfolio of services. This is a high-profile leadership role responsible for embedding a positive health and safety culture across approximately 400 employees.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the delivery of health and safety across Camden's Property Directorate.
  • Act as the competent person for services including repairs, maintenance, compliance, and capital investment programmes.
  • Embed a positive health and safety culture across a workforce of around 400 employees.
  • Provide expert advice and assurance on health and safety matters to senior leaders, managers, contractors, and residents.
  • Support legal compliance and effective risk management.
  • Lead a specialist team, including asbestos professionals.
  • Oversee the delivery of asbestos management arrangements.
  • Support the development of building safety plans for Camden's housing stock.
  • Monitor performance.
  • Develop training and competency programmes.
  • Manage service budgets.
  • Drive continuous improvement through data, insight, and best practice.

Requirements

  • Experienced health and safety professional with a recognised qualification (e.g., Health and Safety degree, NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent).
  • Chartered Member of IOSH (CMIOSH) or working towards this.
  • Experience implementing health and safety management systems, auditing, and driving compliance.
  • Strong understanding of legislative and regulatory requirements for housing, property, and construction environments.
  • Expertise in compliance areas including construction, asbestos, legionella, fire, and gas safety.
  • Confident advising managers and senior leaders on risk management and best practice.
  • Experience using performance data and key indicators to identify trends, inform decision-making, and support continuous improvement.
  • Experience preparing reports and recommendations for senior stakeholders.
  • Strong communicator with the ability to build effective relationships and influence stakeholders.
  • Ability to work collaboratively to resolve issues and manage risk.
  • Experience delivering or commissioning health and safety training is advantageous.
  • Proactive, solutions-focused, and committed to embedding a positive health and safety culture.
