About the Role
Support the Head of Marine Claims in managing marine claims operations, ensuring high service standards, efficient claims handling, regulatory compliance, and achievement of departmental objectives.
Responsibilities
- Manage the day-to-day operation of the marine claims team.
- Work closely with the Marine Underwriting Teams.
- Monitor claims workloads and resource allocation.
- Supervise claims handlers and support staff.
- Ensure adherence to service standards, KPIs, and SLAs.
- Review claims reserves and settlement recommendations within delegated authority.
- Handle and escalate technical, complex, or high-value matters in accordance with referral procedures.
- Support staff development, coaching, and performance management.
- Produce management information and reports.
- Assist with process improvement initiatives and projects.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, regulatory requirements, and delegated authorities.
- Manage customer, broker and TPAs service issues and operational escalations.
Requirements
- Ideally 5 to 7 years’ experience handling marine claims, with the technical judgement to assess complex, technical, or high-value matters and escalate appropriately in line with referral procedures.
- Excellent understanding of claims reserving, settlement recommendations, delegated authority requirements, and effective claims governance.
- Experience supervising, mentoring, or coaching claims colleagues.
- Ability to manage day-to-day team operations, including workload monitoring, resource allocation, service standards, KPIs, and SLAs.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with customers, brokers, third-party administrators, internal teams, and senior stakeholders.
- Sound awareness of regulatory, company policy, and delegated authority requirements relevant to claims operations.
- Ability to produce clear management information, reports, and operational updates to support decision-making.
- Willingness and ability to travel to the US and Europe approximately two to three times per year.
- Experience handling US marine claims.
- Previous experience managing a team.
- Experience contributing to process improvement initiatives, operational projects, or service enhancement activity.
