About the Role

As Industrial Market Sector Director, you will identify and develop project opportunities, serve as a pursuit champion, and act as a resource for HDR pursuits. You will assess the marketplace and determine the best business approach to win and secure contracts.

Responsibilities

  • Focus on client management and development, serving as a client manager and project manager for future assignments and pursuits with key clients.
  • Conduct business development efforts cross-sector with other market sectors and within other business groups.
  • Serve as the Client Manager for selected key clients within the region and maintain an active, visible industry presence.
  • Promote the marketing and delivery of all HDR services to clients in collaboration with client managers.
  • Collaborate with Business Group Managers on the development and delivery of area and department market sector initiatives.
  • Support selected pursuits through client relationship development, strategy development, and participation in pursuit activities.
  • Participate in industry associations and serve as a company role-model in business and community organizations.
  • Identify key investments (acquisitions and technology) to maintain or drive HDR into an industry leadership position.
  • Develop relationships with industry counterparts in other consulting organizations.
  • Develop relationships with senior leadership in key client organizations.
  • Seek opportunities to enhance practices for optimal marketplace performance, winning new work, and providing staff growth and development opportunities.
  • Lead and/or assist with the identification and recruitment of prospective future commercial real estate sector employees.
  • Collaborate with Business Class Directors and practice groups to drive technical excellence and coordinate technical staff for program and marketing efforts.
  • Lead the area in identifying needs and opportunities for new and improved technical services and products to maximize practice depth, effectiveness, and efficiency.
  • Coordinate staffing/recruiting plans for key hires with Market Sector Directors and assist local leadership with local hires.
  • Identify resource gaps and support talent management and recruiting.
  • Assist Area Business Group Managers in delivering services within the commercial real estate sector.
  • Drive client management, monitor and act on market sector profit and loss, ensure project delivery, and support the QA/QC program.
  • Facilitate cooperation and eliminate hurdles and barriers to success.
  • Monitor commercial real estate sector performance indicators (NFE/NFB/profits/positive equity/AR/losses/investments).
  • Implement process improvements and leverage work sharing with area business group leadership to meet or exceed planned goals.
  • Monitor staff workload and facilitate work sharing within the commercial real estate sector; promote effective use of company resources and assist in applying key staff/expertise to projects.
  • Assist with contract review on key projects to ensure risk management, proper staffing, quality reviews, and resolution of claims.
  • Promote Quality Assurance/Quality Control; assist local programs with key technical expertise for marketing and project activities in collaboration with business class and area leadership.
  • Facilitate the development and dissemination of “lessons learned”.
  • Undertake Project Management Assignments relevant to this leadership role.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Architecture, Science or related field.
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain clients in the consulting industry.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work cooperatively within the HDR Matrix, diverse teams, regional, department, technical managers, and project staff.
  • Commitment to quality, continuous improvement, and HDR values.
  • Experience in development and management of strategic marketing programs for planning and/or engineering services.
  • Experience in development and management of a wide range of client relationships and specific program and/or project pursuits.
  • Experience in overall staff development, including recruiting, career path, and professional growth.
  • Experience with industry associations and maintaining a visible profile in the market sector.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with Regional Market Sector Directors, Market Sector Directors, Business Class Directors, Regional Business Group Directors, Area Business Group Managers, Area Marketing Managers, and Area Managers.
  • Demonstrated commitment to HDR values.
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must.
  • A passion and commitment to growing and establishing HDR in the Industrial Sector.
  • A track record in the Industrial Sector encompassing manufacturing, processing, and construction of goods.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or closely related field.
  • A minimum of 12 years industry experience including leadership.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong skills in client management, client development, and a documented history of growing/leading a practice.
  • Strong business skills, specifically handling budgets, staff, and operational issues.
  • Strong ability to analyze the marketplace and strategically position HDR.
