About the Role
The NEST service provides trauma-informed, community-based support to young women and girls aged 14-25 at risk of entering or becoming entrenched in the Criminal Justice System. The role involves providing dedicated one-to-one support, building trusted relationships, and coordinating practical assistance to improve confidence and stabilize lives in areas such as education, housing, health, employment, and justice system interactions. As a Senior Advocate, you will manage a caseload and supervise two advocates, overseeing safeguarding and service quality.
Responsibilities
- Manage a small caseload of young women and girls
- Supervise two YWG Advocates, providing formal and informal supervision and support
- Oversee safeguarding for the girls and young women
- Support the quality control of the service, including regular dip-checks and data input
Requirements
- A strong understanding of the challenges facing young women and girls, including the impacts of gang involvement, exploitation, mental health, domestic abuse and contact with the criminal justice system
- Understanding of the practical and emotional support needs specific to this group, including education, confidence and relationship-building
- Knowledge of trauma-informed gendered approaches in supporting young women facing multiple forms of disadvantage
- Current knowledge of legislation, guidance and regulations relating to safeguarding, child protection and Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation (CSE)
- Experience of using motivational interviewing and coaching techniques with young women and girls, using a woman-centred approach to build trust and rapport
- Experience of risk management, needs assessment, safety and support planning, particularly with young women and girls with complex/multiple needs
