About the Role
As a Medical Assistant at Madison Health, you will support the patient care treatment process by assisting the physician and other clinical staff in the appropriate delivery of patient care services. You will ensure patients are properly received and that necessary business and record-keeping functions are completed before medical services are rendered.
Responsibilities
- Assist physician, nurse practitioner, or other clinical staff in preparing patients for examination/procedure.
- Collect initial patient data including: verify patient name and DOB, vital signs, height and weight, chief complaint for visit, review allergies, over-the-counter medications, self-management goals, and preventative health information.
- Perform in-house laboratory tests as ordered by physicians and nurse practitioners.
- Perform venipuncture and draw blood/serum specimens.
- Assist physician or other clinical staff in direct patient care procedures such as colposcopy, skin biopsies, lesion removal, suture removal, dressing changes, incision and drainage, and laceration repair.
- Perform electrocardiograms, pulse oximetry, and spirometry.
- Administer breathing treatments.
- Perform ear irrigations and eye washes.
- Give patient injections.
- Clean exam rooms after use and prepare rooms for the next patient.
- Restock inventory in exam rooms and participate in assessment of inventory levels and the ordering process.
- Maintain drug samples, logs, outdates, and rotation of stock.
- Retrieve patient messages, route them to the physician, and communicate physician orders back to the patient.
- Retrieve prescription refill requests from voicemail and call or fax approved prescription requests to the pharmacy.
- Schedule new and return appointments, consultations, and testing and procedures.
- Prepare consults and referrals per insurance and other payer requirements.
- Perform pre-certifications and pre-authorizations with insurance companies for services and medications.
- Greet patients and families promptly in a positive manner upon arrival.
- Prepare patient charts.
- Collect patient insurance and demographic information and enter into the IHIS system.
- Assess method and/or ability to pay, identify and communicate necessary insurance requirements to other ancillary staff, answer patient questions, and notify clinical staff of patient arrival.
Requirements
- BLS certification within 30 days of employment required.
Skills
- Medical Assistant certification preferred or equivalent experience in a primary care setting.
