About the Role
The role is based within the Americas Syndicate, responsible for providing P&I claims handling service and advice for Members headquartered in North America. This includes handling Jones Act, Third Party Injuries, FFO, Collision and Casualty claims, with opportunities for travel.
Responsibilities
- Handle assigned claims in accordance with company procedures, provide advice on claims related issues, and identify the need for loss prevention activity.
- Handle a wide range of P&I issues and a substantial Defence caseload, including complex and high value matters.
- Work with a high degree of independence, taking ownership of caseload, and seeking advice from management as appropriate.
- Ensure all electronic correspondence relating to claim files is promptly and correctly filed.
- Maintain and update e-files.
- Promote the relationship between the Club and existing Members.
- Assist in the development of Claims Assistants' capabilities.
- Contribute to the continuous development of company procedures and systems.
- Produce relevant articles for inclusion in Club publications.
- Support Syndicate Underwriting objectives.
- Carry out any other duties within the scope of personal skills and abilities.
- Attend appropriate training and develop relevant knowledge and skills.
- Perform any other ad hoc duties as required.
Requirements
- Previous experience handling personal injury matters, shipping litigation, and dispute resolution from a P&I club, insurer, law firm, ship owner, or ship agent.
- Excellent communication skills, including negotiating, presenting, and reporting (written and verbal).
- Ability to build and maintain effective business relationships at all levels, internally and externally.
- Highly organised, motivated, and enthusiastic with excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to deliver high-quality work within agreed timeframes and prioritise individual workload.
- Proactive and able to use own initiative.
- Ability to work with people at all levels and within a small team.
