About the Role

Performs routine non-professional tasks in support of nursing services, including minor personal patient care. This non-technical role involves patient care and indirect services not requiring a licensed nurse, operating under general supervision, with direct supervision for patient care activities.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in walking, feeding, and bathing patients and caring for their personal needs.
  • Assists nurses in lifting and turning patients, restraining irrational patients, holding patients for treatment, caring for involuntary and disturbed patients, and preparing patients for surgery.
  • Regulates visitor numbers and provides information to visitors as instructed by the nurse in charge.
  • Assembles information concerning patient condition and enters reports on patient records.
  • Assists with training new employees.
  • Cleans and sterilizes hospital equipment.
  • Labels and stores patients' clothes and turns over valuables to the designated person.
  • Assists with the care and maintenance of room furniture, fixtures, and supplies to ensure patient safety and comfort.
  • Cleans, dusts, and maintains order in private rooms, ward units, and other facilities.

  • Must successfully complete a New York State training program and registry examination approved by the New York State Health Department within the prescribed time frame following appointment, or present evidence of completion.
