About the Role

The After-School Program Coordinator ensures that after-school intervention and enrichment are consistent and safe. This role is responsible for the overall development, management, organization, and planning of after-school programs, completing a variety of duties to increase the effectiveness of academic and enrichment interventions.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures program includes activities that contribute to the cognitive, social, emotional, and physical well-being and growth of each participant.
  • Ensures programs are in compliance with state regulations.
  • Troubleshoots issues with staffing, participants, and parents.
  • Secures resources for programs for unique enrichment classes.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities including recruiting, interviewing, hiring, and supervising staff and volunteers, performance evaluations, goal setting, professional development, and addressing complaints.
  • Coordinates training and orientation of new and existing staff.
  • Delivers regular feedback to staff through group and one-on-one meetings.
  • Plans and facilitates staff meetings.
  • Assists in creating and monitoring the budget.
  • Manages Program expense tracker.
  • Assists in developing and managing partnerships and building community support for the program.
  • Works with the program director on grants from proposal development through reporting to ensure compliance.
  • Maintains accurate records, files, and data systems for grant reporting.
  • Reviews and submits monthly, quarterly, and annual program reports.
  • Attends school meetings.
  • Attends meetings with community groups.
  • Works on strategy, community relations, advocacy, organizational, and other projects as needed.
  • Develops and maintains positive and effective relationships with school district personnel, community leaders, educators, school officials, community partners, foundations, and other organizations involved in youth development.
  • Maintains communication with all school-related and community collaborations and networks supporting the after-school program.
  • Distributes and collects student, staff, and parent surveys.
  • Uses program self-assessment tool with staff and stakeholders.
  • Establishes formal evaluation system.
  • Works with external evaluators and program staff to measure programmatic, operational, and youth outcomes, ensuring accurate reporting.

Requirements

  • Experience working in NYC public schools required.
  • Experience working with children and families.
  • Experience supervising full-time staff.
  • Experience with fundraising and development (e.g. grant management, grant proposal writing, and report writing).
  • Experience with and knowledge of research methods, program evaluation, data assessment systems.
  • Experience with community outreach and education, school district operations, community collaborations, and multicultural education.
  • Knowledge of community resources and school-linked services.
  • Enthusiasm for community education and commitment to youth development and services.

Skills

  • Bilingual and bicultural skills desirable
