About the Role
Wagner Lumber, a part of The Baillie Group, is seeking a Procurement Forester to supply logs to multiple hardwood sawmills. This role involves all aspects of locating, assessing, costing, and negotiating the purchase and harvest of standing timber.
Responsibilities
- Manage all aspects of purchasing standing timber.
- Locate and mark boundary lines.
- Cruise standing timber for quantity assessment.
- Appraise timber for quality and value.
- Identify skid road and landing locations.
- Calculate costs for timber sale preparation and harvesting.
- Oversee all aspects of standing timber sales.
- Monitor harvest sites to ensure Best Management Practices (BMPs) are followed.
- Verify that boundary lines are observed.
- Determine acceptable levels of residual damage.
- Ensure the correct trees are harvested.
- Conduct due diligence in timber purchasing.
- Perform title research.
- Qualify properties prior to timber cruising.
- Apply for necessary permits.
