About the Role

RMI is seeking an articulate, eager, and highly qualified attorney passionate about the energy transition to join a team-oriented, fast-paced, and agile work environment. This full-time in-house lawyer will report to the Senior Legal Director, requiring a self-motivated, business-minded, solutions-oriented individual who can operate autonomously, manage multiple projects, and utilize systems thinking, extraordinary judgment, and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

  • Support various program areas with complex legal needs, including drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts, and advising on structuring legal entities, relationships, and transactions.
  • Provide legal advice and support on applicable laws, regulations, and policies, including nonprofit operations, governance, compliance, intellectual property, data privacy, lobbying, FARA, antitrust, and anti-corruption.
  • Manage and mitigate legal risks by drafting and implementing company policies, procedures, and legal templates.
  • Work with the finance team on compliance issues and protocols.
  • Collaborate with the subgrants team to ensure outgoing subaward agreements comply with original funder agreements.
  • Coordinate with outside law firms across various practice areas and jurisdictions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • JD degree from an accredited law school.
  • Licensed to practice law in at least one U.S. state bar.
  • 7+ years of experience, preferably in general law practice with expertise in contract, general corporate, and transactional law.
  • Excellent verbal and writing skills.
  • Ability to simplify complicated legal issues and language.
  • Whole systems approach to problem-solving.
