About the Role

Sydney Water is recruiting a Program Lead to join our dynamic Treatment Planning Team within System Planning & Land Acquisition. This role involves leading a team of water and wastewater treatment planning professionals, collaborating across various departments, and making a direct impact on community resilience and environmental health.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and mentor direct reports of water and wastewater treatment process engineering specialists.
  • Develop long-term investment and risk mitigation strategies for water resource recovery facilities, drinking water filtration plants, recycled water and Purified Recycled Water (PRW) facilities.
  • Lead treatment plant Process Capability Assessments, analyzing process performance data and developing adaptive plans for future investments.
  • Optimize investment plans to ensure value for money for Sydney Water’s customers.
  • Provide expertise in integrated water cycle management and best-practice planning approaches.
  • Drive innovative, sustainable solutions to minimize Sydney Water’s carbon footprint.
  • Identify integration opportunities across systems, resources, and services to optimize performance.
  • Coach and develop less experienced planners, supporting their growth and career development.
  • Represent Sydney Water at industry peak bodies and promote its achievements.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience in municipal water and/or wastewater process design or operations is essential.
  • Candidates with experience limited to scheduling, such as Primavera P6, will NOT meet the role criteria.
  • Demonstrated experience and skills in the development and management of integrated planning of municipal water, recycled water and wastewater facilities.
  • Considered a Subject Matter Expert in Municipal Water and/or Wastewater Treatment design or operations.
  • Strategic thinker with proven planning, influencing, negotiation and facilitation skills.
  • Ability to optimize and present solutions based on different levels of risk, cost and performance.
  • Demonstrated experience system-based planning, design and/or operations (minimum of 10 years).
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with a demonstrated ability to prepare advice and briefing notes to senior management.
