About the Role
Join Kids in the Game as an After School Site Director, a part-time, school-year position focused on implementing high-quality after-school programming for elementary school students. You will lead coaching staff, manage logistics, and foster a safe, inclusive, and enriching environment, ensuring alignment with the organization's mission and values.
Responsibilities
- Supervise staff and oversee day-to-day operations of the after school program.
- Maintain strong relationships with families, school partners, and internal departments.
- Ensure program alignment with Kids in the Game's mission, values, programming, and quality standards.
- Provide positive experiences and opportunities through homework assistance, enrichment classes, and sports/creative play.
- Attend 1 office hour shift per week at the Kids in the Game Office.
- Attend biweekly 1:1 with Program Manager.
- Attend monthly 1:1 with People & Culture Department.
- Participate in the 2026–2027 Professional Development series.
- Complete required onboarding, orientation, and compliance trainings.
- Support new staff by modeling expectations and reviewing key protocols.
- Lead on-site training huddles with staff.
- Attend a minimum of 2 Culture & Impact Days per school year.
- Serve as the lead on-site representative of Kids in the Game at a designated after school site.
- Report to the after school program by 2pm each day.
- Supervise a team of 5–15 part-time staff.
- Lead daily huddles and weekly team meetings.
- Conduct regular program walkthroughs and observations.
- Ensure high-quality programming, smooth transitions, and consistent staff performance.
- Monitor, document, and address behavioral and safety concerns.
- Facilitate parent and family communication.
- Provide daily and weekly updates to the Program Manager.
- Design weekly and monthly program schedules and calendar of events.
- Build engaging weekly schedules using Program Design resources.
- Implement Kids in the Game Specialized Units and signature programming.
- Plan and support staff in facilitating hands-on activities.
- Align daily programming with monthly themes.
- Prepare and lead site-specific celebrations.
- Support vendor relationships and coordinate enrichment instructor schedules.
- Provide feedback to Program Design team on activity implementation.
- Maintain accurate attendance, incident, and schedule records.
- Track daily data: attendance, drop-in enrollments, injuries and incidents, customer inquiries, staff absences and lateness.
- Review and update staff timesheets.
- Communicate with internal departments via Slack, Gmail, and phone calls.
- Post regular program updates and complete monthly newsletters.
- Communicate with registered families.
- Collect and share program feedback.
- Complete administrative tasks including collecting lesson plans and updating supplies and inventory logs.
- Maintain a well-organized and clean office or storage space.
- Review annual program budget and plan spending.
- Purchase supplies in collaboration with the Program Manager and Operations Department.
- Ensure all purchases are tracked in the budget and receipts are submitted.
- Manage billing, collect and track payments, and reduce outstanding registration balances.
- Manage family communications related to balances and outstanding payments.
- Model inclusive practices and promote a culture of belonging.
- Represent Kids in the Game at school-sponsored events.
- Lead special programming efforts.
- Work with the Program Manager and People & Culture Department to discuss staff ratios and scheduling needs.
- Recommend coach placements based on skills and program fit.
- Help onboard new staff.
- Provide regular reminders, feedback, and coaching to staff.
- Document and address staff performance concerns or incidents.
- Administer staff performance reviews twice per year.
- Complete a self-assessment twice per year.
- Monitor on-site safety of participants and staff.
- Complete daily incident and injury reports.
- Provide regular reminders about health and safety protocols.
Requirements
- Must be available during after school hours Monday - Friday from September 2, 2026 through June 18, 2027.
- Up-to-date physical exam and tuberculosis test documentation required before starting.
- Must pass Federal and NY State background checks.
- Willing to complete NYC Department of Education fingerprinting before starting.
- Ability to travel to the Kids in the Game office in Manhattan at least once per week.
- Ability to travel to NYC-based schools for orientation and ongoing training.

Experience Level
- 3-4 years of experience working with children ages 4-11 in academic or recreational settings
- 2 years of prior leadership experience (leading a team of staff and/or programs with 50+ children)
Education Level
- Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood or K-12 Education, Psychology, Social Work, Physical Education, or a related field is strongly preferred.
- CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications are a plus.
Salary/Compensations
- New Site Director (Years 1 & 2): $30/hour
- Returning Site Director (Year 3-5): $32/hour
