About the Role

This role combines legal and property expertise with claims management, working with various professionals to resolve complex property disputes. It offers the opportunity to apply legal expertise outside traditional practice, influence strategy, and develop specialist expertise in title insurance.

Responsibilities

  • Manage an end-to-end portfolio of title insurance and property-related claims.
  • Determine claim liability and prepare clear, legally supported decisions.
  • Obtain and assess expert evidence including surveyors, engineers, valuers, building consultants and external legal advisers.
  • Interpret policies accurately and efficiently.
  • Communicate effectively with clients to ensure a seamless and exceptional customer experience.
  • Provide practical and commercially focused solutions for customers.
  • Build trusted relationships with insureds, conveyancers, solicitors, lenders, brokers and external legal providers.
  • Communicate complex legal concepts in plain English.
  • Manage customer expectations while delivering exceptional service throughout the claims journey.
  • Ensure claims are managed in accordance with ASIC Claims Handling obligations, AFSL requirements, internal claim philosophy, policy terms, and regulatory obligations.
  • Apply procedural fairness and natural justice principles when making claim decisions.
  • Maintain accurate claim records and legal documentation.
  • Identify trends and emerging legal risks to improve policy wording and underwriting practices.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the business to achieve team and organisational objectives.
  • Actively participate in team meetings, sharing ideas and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Support knowledge-sharing and mentoring to strengthen team capability and foster a culture of continuous learning.
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders through effective communication and collaboration.
  • Participate in team-building activities, social events and company initiatives that promote collaboration, engagement and a positive workplace culture.
  • Support the broader Claims team by assisting with administrative and operational tasks as required.
  • Undertake any other duties reasonably required to contribute to the efficient operation and ongoing success of the business.
  • Understand the company’s Safety and Wellbeing policy.
  • Take reasonable care to protect your health and safety and the health and safety of others.
  • Report all safety hazards, incidents, near misses and injuries.
  • Maintain a clear and orderly work area.

Requirements

  • Qualification in a Bachelor of Laws (LLB/JD), Licensed Conveyancer, General Insurance Law, or equivalent legal or insurance qualification.
  • Experience in property law.
  • Experience in general insurance claims.
  • Strong understanding of Australian property law.
  • Strong understanding of contract interpretation.
  • Strong understanding of general insurance principles.
  • Excellent written communication with the ability to draft clear, legally reasoned claim decisions.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple competing priorities.
  • Strong stakeholder management and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
