About the Role

VOA Upstate New York's Children's Center services provides educational programs focused on early childhood development and school readiness for children 6 weeks through 12 years old. The center serves more than 500 children and families annually, offering support services like a full-time Registered Nurse, family development services, parent training, full-day care, and disability supports. The Lead Teacher is responsible for all aspects of care and education in the classroom, ensuring developmentally appropriate activities, assessment of progress, adherence to standards, and meeting individual children's needs.

Responsibilities

  • Provide active, fully engaged supervision of the children at all times.
  • Provide developmentally appropriate activities and experiences to facilitate the children's development in multiple areas.
  • Ensure that the classroom meets each child’s social, emotional, cognitive, and physical needs.
  • Ensure that child assessments and screenings are completed.
  • Schedule and conduct individual parent-teacher conferences according to VOA schedule, communicate on a regular basis with parents/guardian.
  • Maintain classroom cleanliness and compliance with all relevant regulations and standards, including state regulations, accreditation standards, and performance standards.
  • Implement strategies from the Mental Health/Behavioral Specialist for children with social-emotional or behavioral issues.
  • Organize and implement developmentally appropriate lessons and activities reinforcing educational goals, attending to the individual needs of the children.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of NYS OCFS regulations.
  • Minimum of one year of classroom experience required.
