About the Role
Wellsheet, now part of Elsevier, is building the next generation of its clinical AI experience, shipping in early 2027. This role involves owning significant surface area within a small, all-senior engineering team, working directly with system creators and shipping software used in patient care. No healthcare background is required; engineering judgment is prioritized.
Responsibilities
- Own platform subsystems end to end, including ingestion pipelines, sync reliability, and normalization.
- Maintain stack health through major framework and dependency upgrades, developer tooling, and CI.
- Diagnose, design, and implement durable fixes for complex problems.
- Ensure correctness and observability as the platform integrates new consumers.
- Pair with senior engineers to take ownership of production pipelines, including on-call responsibilities.
- Develop pieces of the platform API or internal tooling.
- Own a platform surface depended upon by other teams within three months.
Requirements
- Proficiency in Ruby on Rails with Sidekiq on AWS (ECS, Aurora PostgreSQL), and TypeScript frontend development.
- Strong backend fundamentals including queues, retries, transactions, and failure modes.
- Deep SQL and relational data modeling expertise, with the ability to analyze query plans.
- Experience with end-to-end ownership of production systems, including maintenance.
- A patient, methodical debugging temperament, comfortable working with logs.
- Experience with AI-assisted development, including coding agents and spec-driven development.

- New York: $95,300 - $158,900
