About the Role

This is a floating position, not based out of a single store. The Thrift Shop Assistant Manager will work across different store locations as needed. The Assistant Manager is one of the leaders responsible for the overall operation of a community-based Housing Works Thrift Shop. The ideal candidate is an ambassador for Housing Works, prioritizing customer service, embodying the Mission Statement, and creating a culture reflective of the Housing Works Community Values. This role requires an entrepreneurial spirit with a talent for maximizing revenue and profit using existing resources. You will work alongside the Store Manager to lead training and development, empower employees, and serve as a coach.

Responsibilities

  • Plan strategic and operational objectives for self and others to ensure efficient work completion.
  • Adjust plans accordingly and celebrate team success.
  • Set store team goals, manage execution, track progress, and measure results using metrics like Sales Volume, Average Dollar Sale, Average Unit Sale, Traffic Counts, and Conversion Rates.
  • Ensure compliance with all Housing Works policies and procedures, and accurate and timely completion of daily, weekly, and monthly operational tasks.
  • Utilize Housing Works’ tools to ensure store operations and standards are met.
  • Ensure store uses daily focus with staff/volunteer deployment, sales goals, special promotions, and daily to-dos.
  • Train and develop skills of all employees and volunteers in register operations, visual merchandising, and store maintenance.
  • Recruit, interview, hire, and train all sales associates.
  • Conduct progressive coaching/counseling as necessary to ensure associates meet established standards.
  • Constantly review store environment to improve operations and merchandising.
  • Act as a Housing Works Ambassador by communicating the Mission Statement, outreaching to the community, and participating in a minimum of four direct actions per year aimed at ending homelessness and HIV/AIDS.
  • Perform all other duties as directed by supervisor and/or executive management.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years prior retail management experience or equivalent experience in managing a team.
  • Working knowledge of the second-hand market.
  • Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written).
  • Interpersonal and team-oriented skills.
  • Self-starting, self-motivating, solutions-oriented mindset.
