About the Role
Lambda is seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineer to join its storage team, responsible for developing and implementing next-generation storage software. This role requires expertise in distributed systems and a deep understanding of storage protocols to build scalable and resilient storage control planes for AI and machine learning infrastructure.
Responsibilities
- Design and build a vendor-agnostic control plane that provisions, scales, heals, and meters storage across various platforms.
- Define an internal abstraction layer to hide vendor-specific APIs and functionalities behind a declarative interface.
- Build reconciliation-loop and CRD-based orchestration for managing capacity, tenancy, encryption, and placement across data centers.
- Own multi-tenant isolation, including namespace partitioning, QoS, rate limiting, credential lifecycle, and noisy-neighbor detection.
- Design the capacity and placement engine considering PCIe topology, NUMA, and failure domains.
- Instrument all systems, defining SLIs/SLOs, detecting performance regressions, and building an observability pipeline.
Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in software development for storage systems.
- Proven experience with distributed systems programming and concepts (load balancers, data-durability, consensus algorithms, fault tolerance, data consistency).
- Strong programming skills in C, C++, Go, or Python.
- Experience with Linux kernel internals and system-level programming.
- Experience with one or more storage protocols (e.g. S3, NFS) and file systems (e.g. Ceph, DAOS).
- Familiarity with containerization technologies like Docker and Kubernetes.
- Familiarity with CI/CD and QA practices for distributed systems development.
