About the Role
You will own project and power systems engineering across Fractal’s growing fleet of distribution-connected, utility-scale battery energy storage projects in ERCOT. You will serve as our in-house owner’s engineer and the technical authority on every project, preparing and managing interconnection requests, negotiating technical requirements with utilities and ERCOT, holding EPC contractors and OEMs to scope and specification, and owning the electrical design basis for the fleet. Your judgment will directly shape which sites we build, how we build them, and how fast they reach revenue. You will be a senior, cross-functional leader at the company with extraordinary agency, ownership, and expectations.
Responsibilities
- Lead interconnection from application through energization, including preparing interconnection requests and RIOO/INR submissions, managing study processes, and serving as the primary technical interface with ERCOT, transmission and distribution utilities, and electric cooperatives.
- Review and negotiate technical exhibits of interconnection agreements (SGIAs), system impact and facilities studies, and utility-imposed operating requirements.
- Act as owner’s engineer across EPC execution, reviewing design packages, drawings, equipment submittals, and test plans; holding contractors accountable to scope, schedule, and specification.
- Own core electrical engineering deliverables, including single-line diagrams, system configuration and equipment selection, grounding and arc-flash studies, and protection coordination.
- Manage site-level steady-state and dynamic modeling requirements (PSS/E, PSCAD), coordinating OEM model procurement and validation to satisfy ERCOT and interconnecting-utility requirements.
- Direct and synthesize third-party engineering and diligence.
- Plan, witness, and document commissioning and testing through COD, including factory and site acceptance tests and ERCOT/utility-required testing.
- Build Fractal’s internal engineering standards.
- Support site selection and early-stage diligence with interconnection feasibility, constructability, and equipment lead-time input.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in power systems, BESS, or utility-scale project engineering at a developer, IPP, owner’s engineer, EPC contractor, utility, or consulting firm.
- Direct experience with battery energy storage projects in ERCOT is a plus.
- Working fluency in ERCOT interconnection processes, including RIOO/INR submissions, interconnection studies, SGIAs, and TDSP/cooperative coordination.
- Ability to produce and critically review electrical deliverables: single-line diagrams, protection and control schemes, equipment specifications, and grounding studies.
- Experience reviewing EPC deliverables and third-party reports (ESAs, geotechnical studies, surveys) on behalf of an owner.
- Command of applicable codes and standards, including the NEC, IEEE standards, NFPA, and UL.
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in electrical or power systems engineering preferred.
- Experience with power system modeling tools (PSS/E, PSCAD, ETAP, or similar) and ERCOT model submission requirements.
- Experience with distribution-level interconnection of generation or storage.
- Track record leading commissioning, energization, and testing of BESS or other inverter-based resources.

About the Company
- Fractal Power is a vertically integrated power company built for the modern grid, combining utility-scale energy storage infrastructure with algorithmic trading and dispatch.
- We own and operate across the entire stack, delivering power precisely where and when it’s needed most.
- We are backed by world-leading infrastructure and deeptech investors, including Riot, Definition, and Worldbuild.
- Demand for power is growing at the fastest rate since WWII yet supply is stranded behind worsening transmission and interconnection bottlenecks.
- The new economy requires a new model of power delivery: vertically integrated, algorithmically operated, and co-located with demand.
- We solve the last-mile infrastructure problem by vertically integrating across the entire value chain of American power - from greenfield development, to algorithmic optimization, dispatch, and power trading across a fleet of distributed resources.
- We have the ambition, the team, and the zeal to create the next great power company.
