Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, development, and implementation of complex electrical and control systems for new projects and existing system upgrades.
  • Ensure all electrical designs and installations comply with the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC) and other relevant North American electrical codes and standards (e.g., NFPA 70/NEC).
  • Develop comprehensive power distribution system designs, including low and medium-voltage applications, ensuring efficiency, reliability, and safety.
  • Conduct thorough technical risk assessments for electrical and control systems, identifying potential hazards and implementing effective mitigation strategies.
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams (mechanical, software, project management) to ensure seamless integration of electrical systems.
  • Oversee the selection, specification, and procurement of electrical components and equipment.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and technicians.
  • Participate in all phases of projects, from conceptual design through commissioning and ongoing support.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, including schematics, wiring diagrams, and project reports.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC) and associated Canadian standards.
  • Expert-level proficiency in power distribution systems design, including single-line diagrams, panelboard schedules, and conduit/cable sizing.
  • Expert in system-level design for electrical and control systems, including PLC-based control, motor control, and sensor integration.
  • Strong working knowledge of technical risk assessment methodologies and tools.
  • Demonstrated experience with electrical safety standards and best practices.
  • Solid understanding of electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) principles and design considerations.
  • Proficiency with electrical design software (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, ETAP).
  • Experience with control panel design and layout.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with diverse teams and stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Working knowledge of North American electrical codes and standards (e.g., NFPA 70/National Electrical Code, UL standards).
  • Experience with medium voltage (MV) design and installation.
  • Functional Safety Certification (e.g., TUV FSE, CFSE).
  • Prior experience in the amusement rides industry or other highly regulated industries (e.g., automotive, aerospace, heavy machinery).
  • Experience with industrial network protocols (e.g., EtherNet/IP, Profinet, Modbus TCP).
  • P.Eng designation in Canada or eligibility for P.Eng.
