About the Role
Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Payroll Department, including processing multiple payrolls and monitoring compliance with policies, procedures, and legislative requirements.
Responsibilities
- Manage and respond to team member payroll inbox inquiries, providing guidance on payroll policies and procedures.
- Maintain current and updated payroll documentation, workflow, and work procedures.
- Implement payroll best practices and enhance efficiency.
- Stay updated on legislation for garnishees, educate team members on legislative standards, and answer related inquiries.
- Manage the payroll process and maintain payroll information (new hires, terminations, leave of absence, benefit deductions, garnishments, etc.), including gross-to-net calculation, audit, and balancing.
- Manage end-to-end Canadian and U.S. payroll cycles, including off-cycle payroll.
- Review payroll reports and audit outputs for accuracy and completeness.
- Support payroll-related reporting and provide data insights to internal stakeholders.
- Assist with year-end activities, audits, and regulatory reporting.
- Train and lead Payroll teams on day-to-day tasks and ensure cross-training.
- Support cost savings initiatives and operating efficiencies within the payroll department.
- Liaise with service providers, research, and resolve problems.
- Calculate, enter, and monitor programs such as RRSP/DPSP, Taxable Benefits, EPSP, etc., in collaboration with other members of the People and Culture team.
- Actively participate in Porter’s Safety Management System (SMS), including reporting hazards and incidents, and promoting the Company Safety Policy.
Requirements
- Post-secondary diploma or equivalent work experience.
- 5-7 years of work experience in payroll processing.
- Detail oriented and a proven self-starter.
- Excellent time management skills with the ability to multi-task in a high volume environment.
- Able to work autonomously while possessing strong interpersonal skills and excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to maintain a high degree of discretion, diplomacy, and confidentiality.
- Strong computer skills, experience using Google and/or Microsoft Office products.
