About the Role
BTVK Advisory is seeking a Director to join their Melbourne team. This role focuses on growing and developing the firm's litigation and expert witness practice, offering deep disputes expertise, maintaining legal market relationships, and generating new business. The Director will manage complex engagements, provide financial insight, and ensure client satisfaction.
Responsibilities
- Manage multiple technically specialized and complex litigation, disputes, valuation, forensic accounting, and expert witness engagements.
- Effectively execute client service, staff development, practice development, collaborative delivery, and quality control.
- Gather information about subject businesses for litigation, disputes, and expert witness engagements.
- Lead engagement teams in analyzing data and preparing client deliverables, including expert reports.
- Provide financial insight to clients throughout engagements, including expert witness testimony.
- Manage meetings and calls with clients, solicitors, counsel, experts, and other stakeholders.
- Maintain active client communication to manage expectations and ensure satisfaction.
- Delegate and supervise project assignments to appropriate staff levels.
- Collaborate with colleagues across offices to share expertise and deliver client outcomes.
- Participate in recruiting, training, supervising, and retaining staff, including mentoring and career development.
- Maintain attention to detail and strive for error-free work.
- Grow the Melbourne litigation and expert witness practice and promote the firm's capabilities.
- Utilize existing legal market network to identify and secure new business opportunities.
- Develop and execute client development plans.
- Team with others on proposals and pursuits.
- Expand relationships with law firms, counsel, corporates, insurers, and other referral sources.
- Write articles for industry and firm publications.
- Participate in professional organizations, client functions, and events.
- Conduct presentations and seminars.
- Stay current with industry news and trends.
- Act with the highest professional ethics and in accordance with professional standards.
- Keep Principals informed on all files.
- Minimize firm risk on projects and proposals.
- Contribute to practice administration and firm processes.
- Maximize utilization of staff by seeking or outsourcing work appropriately.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a specialized field.
- Minimum of ten (10) years of related experience.
- Previous related industry and consulting experience highly preferred.
- Minimum of eight (8) years of supervisory responsibilities highly preferred.
- Possess and maintain valid license(s) or certification(s) for applicable area of work (CA, ACA/FCA, ACCA/FCCA, or equivalent).
- Substantial experience in litigation support, forensic accounting, damages, valuation, investigations, or related disputes advisory practice.
- Expertise in financial analysis.
- Demonstrated experience preparing expert reports and supporting or providing expert witness testimony highly preferred.
- Existing network of relationships in the Melbourne and/or Australian legal market required.
- Existing book of business or demonstrable portable or referable revenue is a significant plus.
- Demonstrated management, analytical, organizational, interpersonal, project management, and communication skills required.
- Highly developed Microsoft Suite skills (Word, Excel) required.
- Excellent project management skills with proven success leading projects.
- Exceptional interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Knowledge and experience to oversee the work of others.
- Sense of urgency and commitment to timely project completion.
- Attention to detail and commitment to quality and confidentiality.
- Flexibility to travel to client meetings as needed.
- Flexibility to work outside of normal business hours due to client demands.
