About the Role

The Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) Surgical Technologist Residency Program is designed for new graduates to transition from student to novice surgical technologist in the operating room. HSS is committed to supporting new perioperative professionals through a structured learning experience combining hands-on clinical training, mentorship, and professional development to build foundational skills for success in the orthopedic surgical environment.

Responsibilities

  • Complete clinical orientation during the first six months of the program.
  • Focus on mentorship and continued development of clinical skills and knowledge from months six through twelve.
  • Gain experience in the perioperative environment.
  • Develop technical skills, sterile technique expertise, and procedural knowledge.
  • Participate in mandatory monthly meetings and educational sessions.
  • Work under the direct supervision of the Professional Development team and experienced clinical preceptors.
  • Receive individualized clinical instruction, mentorship, and competency-based training.
  • Work variable shifts and rotating schedules.
  • Work in multiple surgical service lines or departments based on program needs.

Requirements

  • Must be a recent graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist program, with graduation no earlier than May 2026.
  • Must have obtained Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification.
  • Must hold or obtain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association by the start date.
  • Commitment to successfully complete the twelve-month Surgical Technologist Residency Program.
