About the Role

The Senior Payroll and Tax Specialist is responsible for processing payroll accurately and timely, with a primary focus on DG Payrolls, Puerto Rico, and Canada. This role involves managing payroll tax returns for all Pattern Entities, ensuring compliance with regulations, and providing essential support to employees and other departments. The impact of this hire is significant in achieving business objectives such as employee retention and engagement.

Responsibilities

  • Processing Payroll alongside Payroll team.
  • Responding to and resolving employee inquiries effectively and efficiently.
  • Tax Return preparation, review and reconciliation.
  • Investigating, responding to and resolving tax agency notices and inquiries.
  • Supporting other department sub-units, including Accounting, Tax, and Senior Management.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in Payroll, HR, Benefits, and Payroll Tax across multiple industries, including multi-state U.S. payroll processing.
  • Experience processing Canadian payroll and knowledge of Canadian payroll legislation, taxes, and year-end reporting (T4s, ROEs, provincial requirements) is required.
  • Active member of PayrollOrg (formerly the American Payroll Association) and participation in a local payroll chapter preferred.
  • Payroll certifications and ongoing continuing education in payroll, tax, and compliance.
  • Recent experience with ADP Workforce Now is strongly preferred.
  • Extensive experience with payroll tax preparation, reconciliation, agency notice resolution, and tax compliance.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and analytical abilities with a proven track record of accuracy.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively prioritize multiple tasks and meet critical deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally at all levels of the organization.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including VLOOKUPs, Pivot Tables, and data analysis functions.
