About the Role
We are seeking mechanical engineers to tackle the complex challenge of building dexterous hands and fingers for a humanoid robot. This role involves hands-on engineering attention to custom-designed components, from CAD to fabrication and hardware integration. The mechanical architecture designed here is foundational for control and sensor teams, and interns will be involved in designing parts, running analyses, and working with prototypes from day one.
Responsibilities
- Design iteration work on finger and hand mechanisms, including linkage geometry, tendon routing, pulley systems, and tolerance stackups.
- Design custom components for the robotic hand platform.
- Run tolerancing analysis.
- Work with prototypes and hold calipers on them.
Requirements
- Currently pursuing a BS, MS, or PhD in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field.
- Solid coursework in classical mechanics, materials science, and structural engineering.
- Strong understanding of kinematics and mechanism design.
- Familiarity with contact mechanics and tribology basics.
- Understanding of tolerance analysis and GD&T.
- Proficient in SolidWorks, Fusion 360, CATIA, or equivalent parametric CAD.
- Familiarity with designing for lightweight structures.
- Basic FEA experience in SolidWorks Simulation, ANSYS, or similar.
- Understanding of tendon-driven and linkage-driven actuation mechanisms.
- Familiarity with actuator types relevant to robotic fingers.
