About the Role

This position provides citizens with information and resources to help reduce the number of animals in the shelter, ensuring excellent customer service by providing the public with accurate information regarding Animal Management & Welfare policies, programs, and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Provides high levels of customer service by phone, email, and in person.
  • Cleans and disinfects all areas of the office and animal kennels.
  • Responds to emails from citizens.
  • Stocks the front desk intake area with necessary supplies.
  • Staffs the front desk of the Animal Shelter.
  • Conducts animal intakes, assessing health and temperament, assigning case numbers, recording vital statistics, and assigning animals to enclosures.
  • Attempts to locate owners of lost or abandoned animals.
  • Processes adoptions, sterilization options, surrendered/reclaimed animals, and spay-a-mama program participants, completing paperwork and collecting fees.
  • Assists citizens with animal adoptions, including counseling, facilitating meet-and-greets, and completing paperwork.
  • Assists with bathing and preparing animals for adoption.
  • Assists with behavioral assessment groups, rescue coordination, and animal transport.
  • Maintains sanitary conditions and follows biosecurity procedures.
  • Updates the website with current animal information.
  • Administers vaccines and other medications to animals as directed.
  • Microchips animals and processes microchip data.
  • Processes donations made to the shelter.
  • Assists with surgery pickups and questions about surgery incisions.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Requires a High School Diploma or its equivalent (GED).
  • Must have or be able to obtain pre-exposure rabies vaccinations within six (6) months of hire.
  • Ability to safely handle animals, including those with unknown health and temperament.
  • Ability to safely operate a staff or pole, ropes, nets, and cameras.
  • Ability to make rational decisions and perform repetitive motions.
  • Must be adaptive to change.

Skills

  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Effective communication and conflict resolution skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Skill in using standard office equipment such as copiers, cash register, multi-line phone systems, computers and related software applications for data entry, word processing, and accounting purposes.
  • Knowledge of animal shelter procedures and regulations.
  • Knowledge of safety, sanitation, and humane environmental conditions of animals and animal shelters.

Salary/Compensations

  • $14.70 per hour
