About the Role
Discord is seeking a highly technical, creative, hands-on, and impact-focused Senior Software Engineer to join the Ads team. This role involves revolutionizing user interaction through innovative ad formats like Quests, driving revenue growth, and enhancing user engagement by building a win-win-win suite of distribution tools for game developers, players, and Discord.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain new Ads products and infrastructure from backend to frontend.
- Collaborate with engineers on and off the team, including Revenue Infrastructure, Core Tech, Machine Learning, and Data Science.
- Act as a strategic partner with engineering, product, and cross-functional leadership in designing, developing, and scaling digital advertising features.
- Architect simple and maintainable systems for rapid iteration and high product/technical quality.
- Model strong ownership by acting autonomously and looping in others for critical questions.
- Introduce coding and operational best practices to the team, fostering continuous learning and teaching.
- Own projects end-to-end, including refining requirements, creating technical designs, implementing changes, and managing launch and maintenance.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience.
- A focus on impact and a sharp eye for product enhancement.
- Ability to collaborate closely with product managers, designers, analysts, and other engineers.
- A sense of ownership and commitment to solving problems completely.
- A growth mindset, viewing mistakes as learning opportunities.
- A love of mentorship, providing feedback and guidance on system architecture, API design, data modeling, and tradeoffs.
