About the Role

As the Director of Engineering for Battery Pack Systems, you will set the vision and lead the technical direction for battery pack design and development efforts, ensuring world-class lithium-ion battery modules and packs that meet performance, safety, and reliability standards across various sectors. This senior leadership role guides a team through all development phases and influences technology roadmaps, customer engagements, and program execution.

Responsibilities

  • Set and drive the engineering strategy for battery pack programs, ensuring technical excellence and alignment with business objectives.
  • Build, mentor, and develop a cross-disciplinary team of engineers, fostering a collaborative culture.
  • Oversee the design and development of lithium-ion battery packs and modules across multiple programs and industries, ensuring timely and budget-compliant delivery.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver integrated battery solutions.
  • Represent Re:Build in technical discussions with customers and business partners, presenting technical results and recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Stay ahead of emerging technologies and regulatory requirements, guiding the adoption of new tools, processes, and materials.
  • Ensure all battery designs comply with applicable industry standards, certifications, and safety regulations.
  • Anticipate technical risks and develop mitigation strategies, leading engineering responses to organizational changes.
  • Oversee the development of supporting materials and ensure quality engineering documentation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline (required); Master’s or Ph.D. preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in engineering with a strong focus on lithium-ion battery pack or related systems.
  • 5+ years of technical leadership or management experience, including building and developing engineering teams.
  • Proven track record of leading the design, development, and testing of battery systems for electrified propulsion or stationary storage.
  • Deep knowledge of battery pack architecture, design principles, and system integration (mechanical, electrical, thermal, and BMS).
  • Proficiency with engineering tools (CAD such as CATIA or SolidWorks, electrical layout/analysis software, or equivalent).
  • Familiarity with regulatory standards (UL, IEC, ISO, SAE) and certification processes.
  • Strong ability to set vision, align teams, and drive execution.
  • Exceptional communication skills (verbal, written, presentation) with ability to convey complex technical information to executives, customers, and cross-functional teams.
  • Demonstrated success in managing change, risk, and competing priorities in fast-paced environments.
  • Experience with BMS software and control algorithms, and/or advanced thermal/mechanical battery pack design.
  • Background in mathematical modeling, simulation, or advanced battery testing.
  • Project/program management certification or equivalent experience.
