About the Role

Responsible for assisting in the organization, development, and leadership of a highly competitive Division III Men’s and Women’s Cross Country/Track & Field program in support of the mission and core values of Union College.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in recruiting and retaining top prospective student athletes.
  • Collaborates with the head coach and admissions department to arrange on-campus visits for prospective student-athletes.
  • Ensures compliance with all recruitment policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrates effective teaching methods and possesses excellent leadership.
  • Travels to meets and competitions on the weekends.
  • Works proactively with campus stakeholders to ensure the academic success of student-athletes.
  • Mentors student-athletes.
  • Supports aspects designated by the head coach of the program adhering to NCAA, league, and department compliance.
  • Assists colleagues as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends.
  • Must have an understanding of NCAA rules and regulations.
  • Coaching philosophy compatible with a liberal arts college that upholds highly selective academic standards.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, communication and computer skills needed.
  • Ability to recruit within College, NCAA and Liberty League rules.
  • Must be able to work with a diverse group of individuals.
  • Finalists for hire will undergo a background check that includes education, employment, and criminal convictions.

Skills

  • Collegiate running/coaching experience preferred.
  • Collegiate Coaching Experience.
  • Playing/Coaching experience as a cross country and/or track and field athlete.
  • Experience in either the distance, sprints, or horizontal jumps.
  • Experience leading young adults.
  • Speed/Power experience a plus.
  • Computer skills.

  • $50,000-52,500 annually

  • The Men’s and Women’s Cross Country/Track & Field program is a member of NCAA Division III and the Liberty League.
  • Union College sponsors 27 intercollegiate sports, 25 in Division III, with Men’s and Women’s Ice Hockey competing at Division I.
