About the Role

The American Dream School is seeking a motivated, collaborative, and student-centered ENL Teacher to support Multilingual Learners/English Language Learners (MLLs/ELLs) at varying levels of English proficiency. The ENL Teacher will provide direct English language development instruction and collaborate with content-area teachers to ensure that multilingual learners have meaningful access to grade-level curriculum. The ideal candidate views multilingualism as an asset and maintains high expectations for all students.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver effective ENL instruction aligned to students' language proficiency levels and academic needs.
  • Develop students' academic reading, writing, speaking, listening, and vocabulary skills.
  • Provide instruction in whole-group, small-group, individual, and integrated classroom settings as appropriate.
  • Differentiate instruction and develop scaffolds that allow multilingual learners to access rigorous grade-level content.
  • Set measurable language-development goals, monitor student progress, and adjust instruction or interventions as needed.
  • Administer and support required MLL/ELL assessments, including the NYSESLAT and other school- or state-required assessments.
  • Use assessment data to inform instruction, student grouping, differentiation, and intervention.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and complete required reports and documentation.
  • Collaborate with content-area teachers through co-planning, instructional support, and, when appropriate, co-teaching.
  • Serve as a resource to colleagues regarding effective instructional practices for multilingual learners.
  • Collaborate with school leadership, special education staff, and student support teams to address individual student needs.
  • Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress and participate in parent-teacher conferences and other family engagement activities.
  • Maintain a safe, inclusive, structured, and academically focused classroom environment.
  • Participate actively in professional development, staff meetings, collaborative planning, and school-wide initiatives.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • New York State certification in English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL/TESOL), or appropriate eligibility for certification.
  • Strong understanding of English language development and instructional practices for multilingual learners.
  • Ability to analyze assessment data and use results to inform instruction.
  • Strong classroom management, organizational, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Commitment to high academic expectations and culturally responsive instruction.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records, meet deadlines, and protect confidential student information.
  • Comfort using educational technology and Google Workspace.
