About the Role

Responsible for leadership of all facility Safety, Health and Environmental Control functions, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations and policies. Provides technical expertise to identify hazards, assess risk, and implement solutions to prevent injury, environmental impact, and property damage. Contributes to overall plant policies and procedures as part of the site plant staff.

Responsibilities

• Maintain current knowledge of safety, industrial hygiene, and environmental regulations, advising management on compliance status.
• Analyze statistical data to identify improvement opportunities and implement solutions.
• Collaborate with operations leadership to develop plant procedures, policies, and practices to reduce losses.
• Establish and administer the Safety, Health, and Environmental Department budget, recommending expenditures for safety equipment.
• Hire, train, evaluate, and develop qualified EHS staff.
• Provide technical guidance and resolution for safety, industrial hygiene, environmental, ergonomic, and fire protection issues.
• Conduct project reviews and provide early loss control input on new or changed processes and equipment.
• Develop, implement, and manage loss control programs such as lockout/tag out, confined space entry, and industrial hygiene monitoring.
• Instill safety awareness in employees, staff, and contractors through training, incentive, and communication programs.
• Serve as the facility’s safety and environmental liaison with regulatory agencies.
• Develop and coordinate plans for emergencies, response teams, spill cleanup, and disaster planning.
• Provide management with detailed reports on major property losses and human injuries.
• Act as the loss control contact for fire insurance issues and inspections.
• Serve as a member of the plant managing staff.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s Degree preferred.
• Certification, Registration or Licensure preferred: Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH).
• Minimum of 10 years of experience required.
• Experience in loss control, safety, industrial hygiene, environmental safety, emergency response, or related fields.
• Supervisory experience required.
• Strong mechanical knowledge or understanding of manufacturing operations.

• Work with minimum supervision, establishing the EHS Plan for the site with input from Global EHS Director/Manager and site staff.
• Receive general direction on a monthly basis.
• Act as the Lead Person in area of EHS issues.
• Receive general direction from direct manager.
• Responsible for Environmental and OSHA compliance which may impact the introduction of new products.
• Conduct loss control efforts that can impact insurance costs and site operating costs.
• Possess strong mechanical knowledge or understanding of manufacturing operations.
