About the Role
This role leads the Engineering discipline within People Technology, responsible for the architecture, capability, and delivery of technical solutions that connect, automate, and enhance the employee technology landscape. The primary focus is Workday integrations and connected enterprise systems, with future expansion into workflow automation, low-code development, AI-enabled solutions, and modern engineering capabilities. The role involves acting as the engineering architect and design authority, setting technical direction, shaping architecture, and establishing standards. It also includes leading, developing, and performance-managing a team of engineers, fostering a high-performing environment, and ensuring the squad has the necessary skills and capacity. The role represents the engineering discipline across People Technology, partnering with the People function and stakeholders to shape roadmaps, influence prioritization, and translate business needs into scalable engineering solutions. Emphasis is placed on identifying where AI, automation, and intelligent workflows can create measurable value.
Responsibilities
- Act as the engineering architect and design authority for People Technology, owning technical standards, patterns and architectural principles across Workday and connected enterprise systems.

- Lead the evolution of the squad from a primarily integrations-focused team into a broader People Technology engineering capability.
- Drive adoption of modern Workday capabilities, including Workday Orchestrate, Extend, Build and future platform innovations.
- Establish AI engineering capability within the People Technology tribe and identify opportunities to apply AI, automation and intelligent workflows.
- Champion AI-assisted engineering practices that improve productivity, quality and delivery speed, while ensuring responsible security, privacy and governance.
- Lead, coach and performance-manage engineers, building capability across integrations, APIs, automation, low-code development and AI-enabled solutions.
- Plan and manage team capacity, resourcing and capability against current priorities and future demand.
- Act as the senior engineering business partner to People Technology leadership, Product Managers, Functional Leads and business stakeholders, shaping roadmaps, prioritisation and investment decisions.
- Translate business needs into scalable technical solutions, resolve complex engineering challenges and maintain oversight of technical debt, dependencies, risks and operational resilience.
Requirements
- Typically 8–12+ years of experience in integrations, systems engineering, software engineering or related technical roles.
- Deep hands-on experience with Workday integrations and the broader Workday technical ecosystem.
- Strong knowledge of APIs, middleware, enterprise integration platforms and modern integration architecture.
- Experience acting as a technical architect, design authority or senior engineering lead in a complex enterprise environment.
- Experience leading and developing technical specialists, including performance management, coaching and capability building.
- Strong knowledge of Workday Orchestrate, Extend and Build, or the ability to rapidly develop expertise in emerging Workday capabilities.
- Experience applying automation, AI-assisted development or AI-enabled solutions in an enterprise technology environment.
- Strong judgement in evaluating emerging technologies, translating them into practical business outcomes and balancing short-term delivery with long-term sustainability.
- Strong stakeholder management and business-partnering skills, with the ability to influence through clarity, judgement and technical credibility.
