About the Role
St. John's Riverside Hospital is seeking a Patient Care Technician to assist nurses in providing patient care according to hospital policies and procedures. This role is integral to delivering compassionate healthcare with advanced technology.
Responsibilities
- Assist with patient transport, including admissions, transfers, and discharges.
- Demonstrate commitment to core values through quality improvement involvement and embodying "AIDET" principles.
- Create positive patient experiences, engage patients in treatment, provide support, and utilize de-escalation techniques.
- Escalate patient needs to a nurse when necessary, such as for agitated patients or those in acute withdrawal/overdose.
- Attend daily communication huddles.
- Perform venous blood draws, point-of-care testing, blood glucose monitoring, EKGs, and collect/process specimens including COVID swabbing.
- Greet and orient patients to the care area.
- Provide hourly purposeful rounding to assigned patients.
- Report off to oncoming staff before leaving the hospital.
- Monitor and record vital signs (Temperature, BP, Pulse, Respiration, PO2) adhering to hospital policy.
- Record patient weight and intake/output (I&O).
- Administer oxygen therapy and perform oxygen tank changes.
- Maintain the order and appearance of patient rooms and work areas, restocking supplies at the end of the shift.
- Orient new personnel to the unit.
- Promote professional growth and adapt to changing organizational needs.
- Adhere to the hospital's attendance policy.
- Ensure responsibilities and job duties are compliant with hospital policies and procedures.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Patient Care Technician certification required.
- Hospital experience preferred.
