About the Role

Knight Frank is seeking an experienced Deputy Head of Legal to cover a 13-month fixed-term contract for Family Leave. The in-house Legal Team supports all divisions of the business, advising on a broad range of matters including contract negotiation, dispute resolution, corporate projects, data protection, and intellectual property. This high-impact role involves working with the Head of Legal and senior leaders to provide legal advice, deliver legal services, and help shape the future of the legal function within a busy, fast-paced, yet friendly, entrepreneurial, and supportive environment.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Head of Legal and senior stakeholders on complex and strategic matters.
  • Provide guidance and leadership to the Legal Team.
  • Manage the team in the Head of Legal’s absence, acting as the main point of contact for urgent and complex matters.
  • Assist the Head of Legal in preparing agendas for team meetings, tracking actions, and preparing management reports.
  • Act as Legal Operations Lead, developing and re-shaping legal operations for future organizational growth.
  • Implement operational and service delivery improvements for the Legal Team, including technology, automation, and AI.
  • Oversee the successful delivery of the Legal Team’s annual operational plan.
  • Support the strategic development and daily operations of Knight Frank’s Legal Team.
  • Lead the development of the Legal Team’s technical and soft skills, implementing development plans and managing training budgets.
  • Design and implement an annual training program for the Legal Team.
  • Lead training for the business on relevant legal changes and up-skilling initiatives.
  • Monitor and track legal developments that may affect Knight Frank’s business.
  • Support budget preparation and oversight, monitoring legal spend.
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly management information using data and analytics.
  • Leverage data, analytics, and reporting tools to generate insights and track KPIs.
  • Support the management of panel law firm relationships, ensuring value for money.
  • Conduct regular reviews of Knight Frank’s needs against law firm delivery.
  • Line manage and mentor at least three members of the Legal Team.
  • Draft and negotiate complex commercial agreements with suppliers, clients, and partners.
  • Take a lead advisory role on large and complex project-based work, including strategic business-wide projects.
  • Build trusted relationships with key stakeholders to facilitate change adoption.
  • Support new operating model adoption.

Requirements

  • 10+ Years PQE
  • Senior post qualification commercial law experience in an in-house environment.
  • Significant experience advising on complex commercial agreements and strategic projects.
  • Experience advising and presenting to senior stakeholders and boards.
  • Experience implementing in-house legal transformation projects, including technology solutions and reporting tools.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to influence senior stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage and deliver complex projects.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment where change and transformation are key themes.
  • Personable, collaborative, commercially minded, and pragmatic approach to problem-solving.
  • Enjoy being a team player, valuing the individual and working collaboratively.
  • Experience and enjoyment of line managing other team members, including day-to-day supervision.
