About the Role

The Group Risk Management (GRM) Market Risk group monitors, controls, and communicates market risk, ensuring compliance with risk management policies. The new hire will join the GRM team responsible for market risk oversight of RBC’s Leveraged Finance and Alternative Finance businesses in New York, covering leveraged loan and high yield underwriting.

Responsibilities

  • Provide risk oversight for leveraged loans and HY corporates within Global Investment Banking’s Leveraged Finance businesses.
  • Aid in the management of the market risk reporting process and ensure the accuracy of key risk measurements.
  • Develop the risk infrastructure and processes used for day-to-day risk management.
  • Analyze key trading strategies and products to ensure alignment with RBC’s risk tolerance and objectives.
  • Review significant transactions to support the Business and senior GRM approvals, ensuring proper risk controls.
  • Collaborate with regulatory and technology groups to meet strategic infrastructure goals and comply with key regulatory requirements including FRTB, Volcker, and CCAR.
  • Work with Trading and Investment Banking to ensure cohesion on key risk issues: systems, limits, risk management.
  • Investigate risks to provide value-added insight and analysis to senior management on risk trends and concerns.
  • Play a lead role in enhancing GRM on desk risk systems.
  • Perform data analysis of large quantities of data, including the ability to draw conclusions.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate or master’s degree in finance, economics, mathematics, or other quantitative discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience in risk management, trading, finance, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of financial markets demonstrating an interest in the subject matter.
  • Must be self-motivated, highly curious and inquisitive, and capable of working with minimal direction.
  • Very strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to handle a significant and diverse workload in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to prioritize projects and workload.
  • Previous experience in corporate credit, structured credit, or leveraged finance is a plus.
  • Analytical approach to problem solving, and willingness to challenge the status quo.
  • Strong technical skills, including exposure to Python, VBA, SQL, or Tableau.
